Sugar beet conservation with FLORTEX® nonwoven fabric

Sugar beet storage: the Finnish case

Sugar beet is used to produce a wide range of goods: besides sugar, animal feed, chemical products, bioplastics, biogas and ethanol all originate from this crop.

Sown in spring, sugar beet is harvested after about 180 days. To preserve its quality, the roots are gathered into heaps and covered with nonwoven fabrics such as FLORTEX® 45/125, which protects the beets from frost and rain.

The photos document how a Finnish sugar factory used FLORTEX® 45/125 to cover its sugar beets during the storage phase, in a climate characterized by low temperatures and frequent rainfall.
